Aspect - She Knows

At just sixteen years old, it's safe to say that amount of talent being shown off this early by post-dubstep/garage producer Aspect is downright terrifying.
Hailing from Leicester, this emerging artist (aka Niven Peacock) is already composing music with the kind of high quality and studio level production standards expected of seasoned industry professionals.
All things considered then, it's no surprise that Aspect is garnering a great deal of well deserved attention across that web for his debut track 'She Knows'. It's a complex, highly thought out track, in which the carefully crafted percussion and melody are precisely interweaved with Aspect's choice Whitney/LMC vocal cuts. The end result is not only a sweet 2step groove, but also clear signs of a bright future in the music industry, confirmed at the very least by the multiple apt comparisons between Aspect and Jamie xx voiced by many a music critic.
Check out the track below, and download for FREE here. Keep checking back...we guarantee you'll be hearing a lot more from Aspect in the future.

The M Machine - Faces

San Francisco-based trio, The M Machine are some of the freshest faces on Skrillex’s burgeoning OWSLA imprint and their track 'Faces' is really starting to blow up across the internet. 'Faces' is one part of The M Machine's debut 'Metropolis Pt.1' LP and though the track has already received a great deal of promotion via Skrillex, any attention is well deserved by this excellent and highly unique release. Rather than just following in the wake of Skrillex’s high energy 'Brostep', The M Machine have taken a much more melodic, chillwave approach to bass music in 'Faces'. The result is a kind of post-dubstep, progressive and vocally-driven synth-pop. However, as it lingers somewhere around the 140-160 beat mark and combines multiple electronic music elements, pigeonholing this track into one genre box is naturally a little challenging. In this case you'll just have to gauge for yourself, as the track certainly warrants a listen. Preview in the player below and (right-click) download for FREE here.

Luvian - Jams EP

Luvian's 'Jams' EP has finally arrived comprising the previously covered tracks 'Only You', 'My Life'.
Also there is new track 'Haze', a chilled out, sub bass roller that lingers around the 140-160bpm mark.
With tidy use of vocal samples and an enchanting if minimal melody running throughout the track, this is exactly the kind of post-dubstep style vibe that we love at The HotBox.
Check out 'Haze' below as well as the whole 'Jams' EP, which is available to buy at VibeDeck, where you can also now grab many of Luvian's older releases for FREE in exchange for Facebook likes.

Synthetic Epiphany - Survive EP

We've been waiting along time for this and now it's finally here. Ever since Synthetic Epiphany aka Marcus Levy-Chance started releasing his material via Soundcloud, this EP release has been eagerly anticipated, not that this is by any means his full release, but it may be his most accomplished and seasoned to date....and one that we have certainly been waiting for.
The 'Survive' EP is the culmination of that waiting, a collection of highly atmospheric and emotional tracks, arranged around 2step and half time rhythms. You might call it chillstep, burialstep or even future garage, either way this is easily some of the most beautiful and intelligent music that you'll hear this year. Each track is sonically unique in it's own delivery and message, yet they are able seamlessly blend together creating ambient and dreamlike soundscapes...this certainly the kind of EP you'll want to close your eyes to and experience all at once. The stand out track in this regard is 'Breathe' (170bpm edit), whose drum and bass energy sets it apart from the otherwise downtempo feel of the EP, however not in a jarring sense, but rather distinguishing the track as the climatic release of the energy that steadily builds throughout the EP.
The whole EP is available for FREE via Bandcamp as part of Synthetic Epiphany's 'Pay what you want' ethos, but don't make the mistake of taking this as his way of gauging the value of his music, rather this is an EP for everyone, those that can afford and those that can't. Nevertheless 'Survive' is  excellent release and a must download for electronic music fans, listen below and see for yourself.

Karma Kid - Lou Lou

There's some really interesting stuff coming out under the guise of post-dubstep/future garage right now. Karma Kid is yet another one of such artists that defy genre boundaries. Genre definitions aside 'Lou Lou' is proper groover, laden with R&B vocal samples and liberal 808s, altogether with a somewhat unexpected euphoric synth lead. However, Karma Kid manages to arrange these elements together seamlessly across a rhythm that blends in and out from 4 to the floor, to a more shuffled 2step.
Regardless, it's a no brainer FREE download so grab it now and swing by Karma Kid's Facebook to show some love....check out 'Delight In Delaware' too below, another FREE dl.

Bondax - Only You Know Ft. Dee

Just recently we had the pleasure of stumbling across this brilliant FREEbie from British duo Bondax. 'Only You Know' is a perfect Post-Dubstep that the bass heads will love. At times the track even verges on the side of UKG with its melodic drive and vocal leads, however that familiar 140ish beatmark stands as a firm reminder of where the track really stands.
'Only You Know' is available for FREE here, drop your thanks over at their Soundcloud and check out their other productions, two of which i've linked below.

Δkkord - Δkkord[001]

Remember our post on Δkkord? Well their press team just got in touch with us to finally reveal a little about them.

∆kkord are a collective of like minded artists raised in and around the rural outskirts of Manchester. Together they draw upon years of musical knowledge & production experience to collectively channel their sound into a eclectic hybrid of all the electronic music they were brought up on, combined with a passion for minimalism, art, design, mathematics and sacred geometry.

Sounds pretty sweet don't it. There's no doubt these guys are gonna be huge, especially since we're pretty confident Synkro and Indigo are involved somehow in all this...it's gonna be post-dubstep/future garage/minimal bliss.
The debut release 'Δkkord[001]' is gonna be available for pre-order 27/02 on vinyl and digital from Boomkat. In the meantime, preview the release below, and watch this space......

Troy Gunner - Mindset009 EP

Experimental music, by it's very nature, isn't going to please everybody. You can't plunder the deepest, darkest depths of music and still appeal to a wide audience, but of course...who says it has to....
Along this vein, I present Manchester's Troy Gunner. Mindset Record's latest signing and pioneer of the post-dubstep/future garage scene.
His debut EP "Mindset009" is an eclectic mix of field samples, bassy moods and highly textured, percussion led music. This is some of the most hectic and complex music i've ever heard and while it isn't always an easy listen, it's certainly worth your time.
In Troy Gunner's on words, "i don’t really expect people to get my music and I guess that it’s all about the music at the end of the day so i do try to allow that do most of the talking."
I've encountered artist that use field recordings before, e.g. Joy Orbison's patterned percussion sampled from the pitched down, metal clangs of a hammer on a radiator. But Troy goes even further, sampling audio from meaningful answer-phone messages, conversations with his brother and even more unexpected sources.
This EP represents audible soundscapes at their finest, Troy takes mental images from the past, close memories and emotions and creates a soundtrack from them, inviting his listener to experience them too. Like I said, this music won't always get you dancing, but it will definitely get you thinking...
”Mindset009" is out on 5th December…check the 3 track EP below...

Album: Chaos In The CBD - Moving Image

I've talked before about the resurgence of UKG and how it's steadily making a come back under the guise of Future Garage/Post-Dubstep or whatever you want to call it. The point is, those UK garage vibes are back, and are now starting spread well beyond Britain.
All the way on the other side of the world, New Zealand's finest Chaos In The CBD have been putting their own spin that garage/bass vibe and I can tell you now....it's a damn fine sound, combining elements of House, Acid House, Garage and Dubstep.
With an EP (Moving Image) out on Youngunz, collaborations with French Fries and remixes by the likes of Submerse already flooding out, it's clear these guys are on a fast track to the top. Frankly it's no surprise as their music speaks for itself. Check out the house and garage vibes on 'Moving Image' EP and the upcoming 'Waves' EP linked below. Also check the post-dub remix of 'Pearl' which is FREE to download.

Nostalgia – Superfunk

It's getting harder and harder to find decent, melodic, progressive and interesting dubstep. With the advance brostep/popstep (whatever you wanna call it) all over the radio most producers have just abandoned the genre entirely.
Some artists however, are choosing to innovate...... Nostalgia's 'Superfunk' is a perfect example of how dubstep can be melodic, with musical chord progression......as well as dancey, summery vibes.........this is a stark contrast to the majority which falls into the usual dusbstep formula trap of melody – drop – melody – wompwompwomp – over rinse/repeat.
Alot of people are hating on the US right now for the whole Skrillex/Bro-step thing, but Nostalgia proves there's still plenty of in the States...

Bastille - What Would You Do? (City High Cover)

The word 'cover' brings to mind images of old men in bands covering old rock songs, with amusing names like Nearvana and The Rolling Clones. However, not all 'cover' music fits the stereotype, in fact the borders between cover tunes and remixes are blending massively, with some bands putting their own spin on a song and transforming it entirely...a great example being Inspired Flight's brilliant cover of 'Wonderwall', the song that actually got me into said band.
In the same vein, London native Bastille has taken one hit wonder City High's 'What would you do?' and made it his own. Remember the jam? All about baby momma's shakin dat ass for a lil bit of money cause their daddies gone? Well Bastille has turned it into a an emotional electronic ballad, that's well worth your time. Check it out below

Soular Order - Find Your Way

Thank god for Sundays, time to stay in bed, recuperate and try to piece the weekend together. Luckily i've just the thing to help.
Soular Order aka Jon Maynard is a electronic/dubstep/ambient producer from Manchester. His track 'Find Your Way' is an epic glitchy ambient masterpiece that demands your attention. It's probably the best composed and most chilled-out track i've heard for ages. The track is available for FREE but is only the single from his third EP 'A World Apart'. The EP is available here for as little as £1.50.... a bargain for an absolutely stunning album.
The other two EPs 'Ascent' and 'Edge of The Earth' are available for FREE on his bandcamp.... no doubt well worth a look in.
Close your eyes, sit back and let Soular Order clear your mind.

Phaeleh & VVV - Reconcile

Future garage, post-dubstep, 2-Step....whatever you want to call it, Garage is back and in a big way (that means UK Garage to all you state-side). As electronic artists begin to turn away from the commercial whipping horse that is now Dubstep, they are starting to look back to their roots. What we are experiencing now is a reemergence of the Garage Sound. The roots of all 2-Step, D&B and Dub are all audible in the tracks being released by artists such as Joy Orbison, XXXY and Pariah...mostly via the L2S and Doldrums record labels.
'Reconcile' by Phaeleh & VVV is a perfect example of the genre, with deep synths, arpeggiated lead chords and, of course, a meticulously constructed 2-step beat that gets your head nodding and feet shuffling. Give it a listen, if you like it then pick up the 320 which VVV is giving away for free here.
Check out their Soundcloud while you're there, as well as the others posted above.
The genre is expanding rapidly and even getting some mainstream attention,  personally i couldn't be happier to here these rhythms back on the airwaves. Garage is dead, long live Garage!
